Support
quality learning from preschool through college. Ensure diverse
offerings. Oppose large school complexes in Rural Areas.
Provide opportunities for communication and accountability
between educators and family. Support teachers and methods that
build excellence.
Environment
Protect
surrounding environment and natural amenities for public health
and safety and rural recreational opportunities. Support private
property tax incentives to protect the environment. Protect
agricultural and forest lands and open space. Maintain
landowner’s rights and responsibilities.
Government
Encourage a King County Department of Rural Affairs. Support
suitable representation and funding. Encourage citizen
participation in and communication on rural issues.
Growth
Promote slow well-planned growth. Preserve the integrity of the
Urban Growth Boundary. Oppose annexation of Rural Areas to
cities. Preserve our rural character.
Infrastructure
Support safe roads, trails, and parks. Prohibit extension of
water, sewer, and natural gas lines into currently unserviced
areas.
Leadership
Serve as a
voice on issues important to the Rural Areas. Encourage active
participation of citizens in rural organizations and groups that
engage in community-building activities.
Listen and understand all ideas and opinions and build on areas of consensus. Live out the character of the rural community.
Represent and serve to the best of our ability.
Public Health and Safety
Support adequate local
health, police, fire, and emergency services. Support clean air
and clean water by preservation of watersheds and aquifers, and
safety of septic systems. Protect the viability and use of safe
septic systems and private and community wells.
