7:30 PM: King County Comp Plan Docket Items Status: Paul Reitenbach explained the process by which K C Comp. Plan undergoes possible revisions every four years. This year the county will reach out to public to obtain their list of issues. This must be done by February; by March 1 the scope of work motion will be transferred to King County Council; in April the staff reviews this scope of work motion; from May to August his office manages interdepartmental efforts to develop Executive-recommended amendments to the K.C. Comp. Plan; in September these recommendations are published in a Review Draft of the 2008 KCCP Update; in November public meetings will be held to discuss this draft; in December his office transmits the 2007 KCCP Docket Report to the K.C.Council; during January and February a public outreach by making presentations to UACs and the Agriculture and Forestry Commissions about the KCCP Docket Review Draft; in March his office will transmit the Executive-recommended 2008 KCCP Update to the K. C. Council.
In Chapter 6, bullet #1 on County Transportation Concurrency Management our council saw problems with the lag and seeming lack of transportation concurrency coordination between cities and unincorporated areas. Synchronizing road construction with new development years behind, therefore it becomes expensive and often outdated in developing transportation remedies to rapid growth. We asked the county to get involved with legislation to set design standards in this issue.
Chairman Bonewits asked Stephanie Warden how the county intends to reach out to all affected public on potential meetings discussing these issues. In the past notification appeared to be prejudiced in that those having prior contacts with DDES were notified and much of the rest of county members remained unaware of the meetings, except through notification by way of the media.
Holly Sawin reported that the Home Occupations Code has not yet been codified, but was in process. The revised codes, providing more home occupation code flexibility, will give a number of county residents with home businesses the ability to be within codes.
9:00 PM: Continuations of Rural Vision Statement Development: Peter Rimbos asked council members to read and respond to the Underlying Objectives in the Rural Vision Statement. Send responses to Peter Rimbos, Rob Morris or Les Dawson by Jan. 22.
9:30 PM: Website Development: Dave Fields announced he would be unable to complete development of the website. Les Dawson is in contact with the Tahoma High School Multimedia teacher and a student of hers is working on this site with her guidance.
Announcements: A letter was sent to the family of slain officer Steve Cox in our council’s name. Reagan Dunn will be speaking at our next meeting. We will begin working on this year's train show next month. |
